Regardless of what niche you are in if you are an internet marketer, you can pretty much bet that there is a community out there actively discussing your niche.

This, of course, presents a two sided opportunity if you have a website and want to drive targeted traffic to it. And that is what it is all about, right, driving targeted traffic.

With so many fine php forum scripts available such as vBulletin, SMF and phpBB available, launching a forum is as easy as getting some cheap hosting and in most cases using a forum auto-installer function on the server usually found in the software section of your CPanel.

For this reason, a countless number of niche forums are already established and are waiting for you to use them to your advantage. Keep in mind that not only will you be driving traffic to your website, but you will also be learning at the same time because the individuals you meet there are generally very knowledgeable about the forum topic.

So how do I use forum postings to generate web traffic?

As with all of my posts we will begin by stating what you shouldn’t do. You shouldn’t open account and start multiple threads directly encouraging people to visit your website as this is spamming and may get you permanently banned. Many of these communities are very close and the members are very familiar with each other. Additionally, they can literally smell spammers from a mile away. Just don’t spam. In fact, do not even mention your website, ever, unless you are an established member and it is actually relevant to the discussion.

Now, for what you should do. You should begin by doing lots of reading. As I mentioned before, niche forums attract experts. So, the odds are pretty high that there are many members with far more knowledge on the subject than you have. No big deal. Remember, read and learn. Sooner or later, you will come across a thread where, after having read and learned enough, you can actually make an insightful and informed contribution. When this is the case, definitely contribute.

So how does this generate we traffic you ask? Simple. Most forums have a signature function in your profile section. Many forums allow it’s member to put links and descriptions to their website in their signature, which, by the way, appears beneath each post. This is NOT considered spamming. It is viewed as a courtesy extended by the forum to it’s contributing members. Over time, if you are an active member, you will expand your knowledge on the subject greatly and you will begin to have other members and guests visit your site through your forum signature found with each of your posts. More often than not, this will be targeted traffic.

Generating web traffic through forum participation and forum postings can be very beneficial if done correctly.
