This Savvy Techie is the Inventor of the Cell Phone

Martin Cooper was on Sixth Avenue in New York City when he made a phone call to Joel S. Engel who was on the roof top of the Burlington House across the street. It was no ordinary phone call because what Cooper used was the first ever cell phone way back in the year of 1973. It was a prototype DnyaTAC phone. Martin Cooper, also the first cell phone user in the world with that famous call is the acknowledged cell phone inventor.

Cooper started his career in telecommunications when he left the Navy after World War II. He got a degree in electrical engineering and in 1954 started working for Motorola. To further gain expertise in his field he took units for his masters in electrical engineering, attending night classes and working in the daytime. This industrious would-be cell phone inventor let nothing stop him from reaching his career success. In 1957, he finally earned his master’s degree and started teaching night classes at the Illinois Institute of Technology where he also had graduated from college and had his masters.
