So far in this series, we have talked about selecting a niche, researching our niche so as to determine if there is a demand in this particular niche and finally additional research to see if there is money being spent in this niche.
If we determine that the niche is profitable, we can now begin searching for suitable products to sell on our website. There are many information products that we can sell online. All you have to do is Google information products for resell. Additionally, you could search for products with master resell rights (MRR) or private label rights (PLR). Please note that selling PLR items is not the same as using PLR content. You can actually use PLR items when selling because the information contained in them is not used as content for your site. Other people may also be selling these same PLR items. As a reminder, all content used for your site that is readable by search engines and counted as content must be original. That is the only way you will ever have a decent rank or SERP.
Another highly popular source for sellable content is the digital products retailer, Clickbank. Here you can sign up for a free affiliate account and start selling information products as an affiliate. To find a product in you niche, simply go to the Marketplace link and browse the categories then sub-categories on the left side. Or, you can use the built in site search engine and query products in you niche. Using the category list works better.
There are several things that you can note once you have made note of a list of suitable items, such as $ per sale, gravity (how popular the product is among affiliates), %/refd (the amount of sales referred from affiliates). Note the red link above the description. This is a link to the vendor landing page. It is very important that you make careful consideration of this page because it is the one that you will be sending visitors to via your hop-link or your affiliate link. Why is this important? Because regardless of whether or not you spend all of the time in the world tuning and tweaking your article copy to make the sale, if you send them to a sales or landing page that will not convert or close the sale, all your time will have been wasted. Scan the vendor page carefully. Look for signs of a lack of professionalism such as sloppy graphics, poorly written sales copy or grammatical errors such as misspellings. Errors such as these will negate your efforts. Additionally and equally important is the need to search for leaks or places where the vendor can cut you out of the sales loop. Not all vendors are honest. For this reason, you need to protect yourself. One of the biggest and most important leaks you need to look for is an opt-in form. This is a form that asks for an email address in exchange for free information of some sort.
Not all opt-in forms are obvious. Some you will see above the fold meaning at the top of the page. Others will be all the way at the bottom beneath the purchase or buy button. Still others are even more tricky as they come in the form of a pop-up that appears after the page has been loaded, sometimes well after the page has been loaded or on the third visit. This type of leak has to be detected as it will completely steal from your efforts.
Another trick to watch for is a hop-link that directs your potential buyer to a squeeze page instead of the sales page that was linked to above the Clickbank description. This is a HUGE RED FLAG. Stay away from that vendor. You are relying completely on their honesty as a vendor! NO THANKS! MOVING ON! If you decide to go with a product, click on your hop-link every once in a while to make sure that it still leads to a sales page with a nice layout, convincing sales copy and that it is leak free. This is the only way to protect your efforts.
One final thing, you also want to cloak your affiliate links to prevent others from making note of your personal information. There are two very simple ways to do this. You can set up a page on your website that your article links to which is a redirect through your affiliate link to the sales page or you can use a URL shortening service that does this for you such as bit.ly or another similar URL shortening service. This will protect your information.
That is all for now. Next time we will discuss how to sell your own digital products just like the vendors do. This will be where things start to get very fun. Until next time…
As always, I am interested in your comments.
